2009 Fantasy Recap – Tennessee Titans
The Titans – Last September, a reader sent me a chiding email (I was with another FF site in 2009) for ranking Vince Young ahead of Kerry Collins in my 2009 pre-season rankings. HAHAHAHA – later buddy! Kerry Colllins is to the NFL what Strom Thurmond was to the US Senate. Except Strom Thurmond could still do his job at 100 years old, and Collins could not.
***Important message***If you didn’t win your fantasy league total points crown with CJ28 on your roster, you should retire immediately. Like LT in 2005, Priest Holmes in 2002, and Marshall Faulk in 2001, the next RB wasn’t even close in fantasy production.
There isn’t much to discuss on the aerial front in Tennessee, for despite what Vince Young’s heroics meant to the city of Nashville, they didn’t translate to much to his fantasy owners (he finished 27th in fantasy PPG). Kenny Britt flexed some promise with his 701 yards and 3 TDs on only 6 starts and 75 targets, but given that a Vince Young QB’d team has not produced a top 36 fantasy WR to date, you’ll forgive me if I don’t feature him on my sleeper report.

Tennessee Titans 2010 Oline analysis – provided by UltimateFFstrategy.com
2010 Offensive Philosophy
Jeff Fisher returns to Tennessee for his 15th season – let’s put it this way, he’s been coaching this team since they were the Houston Oilers. That’s pretty sick.

The Titans aren’t about to try and turn Vince Young into something he’s not – a proficient passer, so expect Chris Johnson to see the rock another 350 or so times minimally. There is no good reason why they should limit his touches, given that there really isn’t much else to lean on with this offense. The loss of Kevin Mawae at center could ruin the chemistry of this team. He has been anchoring this unit since 2006, and been to the pro bowl the last two seasons.
AIR: The Titans were the 2nd least sacked team in the league, yet finished in the lower tier in every other passing stat that matters. Vince Young is not a fantasy QB unless he’s rushing in 7 TDs (2006) and even then, he was only the 12th best fantasy QB. He has a career completion % of just 57.6. Kenny Britt showed a lot of promise, and I suppose he holds some decent late round flier value. I’m seeing drafted as the 40th WR over names like Devin Aromashodu, Chaz Schilens, Mohamed Massaquoi, and Malcom Floyd – which is sort of lunacy. There’s no upside drafting Titan WRs. At least w/ those other 4 you have a shot in the unknown.
GROUND: I have been going back and forth on CJ28 big time. The ONLY thing preventing me from making him the #1 overall is that massive amount of touches in 2009. Of all the BS theories in fantasy football, the 370+ carry one is the most legit. Johnson is young, though, so I suppose it’s less of a concern. But then I look at his sub 200 lb frame and get even more freaked. A logical thought is that the Titans try and get Javon Ringer more incorporated into the offense. This is a solid write-up on the rookie; apparently he is turning heads. The likely scenario sees CJ28 hauling in another 375 total touches and finishing easily in the top 3 RBs – assuming he doesn’t get injured!
QB
Vince Young - In 4 (really 3.25) seasons, VY has had one quasi-relevant fantasy season - his rookie year, and that was only because he ran 7 TDs in. He has zero fantasy upside, and while I'm at it, don't buy into the Kenny Britt hype, either. I LOVE Britt's skills, but with VY as his QB, he'll be lucky to crack WR3 status. VY finished 20th overall in fantasy points per game at 17.34 in '09, making him draft-worthy but only as a weak backup aka QB3.
RB
Chris Johnson - 13 teams have circled their match-up(s) with the Titans and are already watching game film on CJ28's tendencies in hope of figuring out how to stop him. It is for this very reason that only 5 RBs have had back to back Fantasy Football league leading numbers over the last 20 years - Emmitt Smith, Priest Holmes, Marshall Faulk, LT, and Shaun Alexander. Paint us as skeptics if you would like, but between all of the attention he will receive from opposing defensive coordinators and the hangover from the 400+ touches on a 200 lb frame, we can't justify the upside over the stability of an AP.
Javon Ringer - He's an obvious handcuff to CJ28. He's the *new* proto-type size for 50% of a RBBC in the NFL at 5'9" and around 200 or so pounds. 1600+ yards and 22 TDs was his stat line in his Sr. season at Michigan State - and that's running in the big 10. Respeck. That was also on 360+ carries, so he's proven he can handle a full load.
WR
Kenny Britt – Kenny Britt is top shelf talent, catching balls from a fantasy WR killer. Quick, name me one WR on the Titans in the last 4 seasons that has finished in the top 36 in fantasy? Ding Ding Ding - Justin Gage finished 35th in 2008 - guess who was QB that year? Oh right, Kerry Collins. No WR has finished above 41st ranked WR in fantasy with VY under center. We are giving Britt a major benefit of the doubt w/a ranking inside the top 36.
Bo Scaife - Ho-hum - his 5 year career has been all talk and no game. I just read another one of those bullshit reports that said he's been working out all year with a personal trainer. That's sort of like Chris Rock's comedy routine where he mimics a father for saying "I take CARE of my kids" to which Rock exudes "Yer supposed to take care of your kids, dumb motherfu@#$!". Heh heh. Gee, great, Scaife, you mean you worked out all season? And what do you think the other 2000 NFL players were doing from February to May? Not to mention the other 20,000+ athletes trying to pry a door open into the league? F it, I'm bumping him down below Kevin Boss.
