Rashard Mendenhall @ Wikipedia
Wikipedia is the mother-ship of online content. By the people, for the people!
Jonathan Dwyer - He is a rookie drafted in the 6th round and appears to be adapting well in Pittsburgh's OTAs.
Mendenhall signed a five-year, $9.855 million contract back in July of '08 that included $7.125 guaranteed and a $6.83 million signing bonus. Another $2.7 million is also available through escalators. Here's the layout:
2009 - $385,000
2010 - $527,500
2011 - $612,500
2012 - $650,000
2013 - Free Agent
When Willie Parker was lost to an injury suffered in the 3rd week of the season, Mendenhall was given the starting nod going into week four. He knew he had to take advantage of his opportunity, but didn't quite have the veteran know-how of going about it.
Rashard couldn't stop his ego from writing a text that his body would eventually have to crash. Sometime in the middle of the week before the game, Mendenhall decided to SMS his buddy and fellow rookie RB Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens (their upcoming opponent) saying that he would have a big game against the Ravens D in week four. Rice, of course, passed that text along to the rest of the team. The Baltimore players didn't take Rashard's words lightly as they had not given up a 100-yard rusher in 21 straight contests and weren't about to let some big-mouth rookie ruin their good time.
Monday Night Football ala week four rolls around and the Ravens come to town. Mendenhall goes out and doesn't do too poorly as he eeks out eight carries for 27 yards. Against the Ravens, that's par for the course. On the first play of the 2nd half, though, Roethlisberger handed the ball to Rashard on a punch play up through the middle. He was met by none other than Ray Lewis and Trevor Pryce, two very big, angry boys, and there's really no need to say who won that contest. Mendenhall would leave the game after that 3-yard run with a fractured shoulder that landed him on the IR for the remainder of the season.
There you go Rook. Lesson learned.
Mendenhall has got skills. He's big enough at 224 lbs. to take a few hits and run through some people, yet runs between a 4.36-4.45 40-yard dash as well. He sits in the 2-spot on the depth chart behind Fast Willie Parker, but he'll steal a bunch of goal-line carries and should gather in another 100+ carries besides that. He is Mike Tomlin's ideal bruiser back, and we tend to believe that this could be FWP's final year, and they will then hand full-time duties to Mendenhall - that's if he stays healthy. As it stands, you should draft Mendenhall as FWP's handcuff in the middle rounds of your draft.

Rashard was placed on IR last year after suffering a fractured shoulder in just his 4th game. He looks to be back to normal now, but you’ve got to wonder if his ego realizes yet that even though he’s a tough inside runner, NFL players simply hit WAY harder than what he got used to in college.
