Percy Harvin Profile at Pro-Football-Reference

Percy Harvin is the type of super-athletic prototype player that has transformed the look of the league. Over the past decade, players that bring raw talent and unparalleled physical assets to the table are the ones teams are most interested in. Steve Smith, Devin Hester, Dante Hall, Vernon Davis, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Leon Washington are the kind of game-changing multi-talented weapons that inspired Minnesota to draft Percy Harvin.
As usual with these you tube movies, the worst songs ever on the soundtrack - lots of electrifying plays from Percy thru his high school and college playing days:
In terms of pure athleticism, no college player in the country came close to matching Percy Harvin in the '08 NFL draft. Despite injury troubles, Harvin was the most dangerous player in the NCAA. He ran, caught, and even passed with stunning effectiveness in nearly every game he played in. He was central in leading Florida to a 14-1 record on its way to a national championship trophy.
His versatility is what makes him such a headache for the opposition. Florida games all looked like reruns of Roadrunner and Wyle E. Coyote; he found a way around every scheme that defenses implemented to stop him. He was like the billiards shark that can't miss a ball, an online casino player on a winning streak, or a basketball player on fire getting nothing but net. He was unstoppable. His agility, speed, and soft hands were what led this juggernaut to notch 17 TDs while missing 2.5 games to injury.
Though his physical prowess is unmatched, he is mentally deficient at nearly every level. He lacks the ability to run clean routes, fails to grasp the importance of blocking, and doesn't have the sense to keep his mouth shut when he needs to. In high school, repeated incidents of inappropriate language and fighting caused the Virginia High School League to revoke his athletic eligibility for the second half of his senior year, costing him an entire season of track and field. The cherry on the cake, however, was his testing positive for marijuana at the NFL combine, in spite of the knowledge that all participants would be tested. Couldn't hold off that bubonic chronic for just a few days, could you? Hey, we guess it only cost him a couple million. The marijuana also may have been to blame for his Geico caveman Wonderlic score of 12. Or maybe not. . .
Harvin may not have great football intangibles or the ability to make mature decisions, but he can run with the best of 'em. The Vikings are completely revamping their playbook to include Harvin's and Adrian Peterson's unique skill sets. In doing so, the Vikings learned that Harvin doesn't really have a position to fall back on. His versatility is what makes his game so deadly, but he simply doesn't have the skills or I.Q. to be cemented into a single position. He may not fit on the Vikings' depth chart under RB, QB, or WR, but he'll have a spot on the field as long as he can keep his mouth shut.
Harvin's fantasy value is tough to gauge. This much we do know...if he can be mature enough to behave for 16 games, he is going to see the field a lot during his rookie campaign. He has jaw dropped pretty much everyone on the team, with his athleticism and pure play-making ability. Just be sure to balance that against the above-documented personality and injury concerns. He will be listed as a WR, and you would be wise to take a late round flier on this kid.
