Huddle Up: Schaub already knows the offense; how hard can it be to turn around and hand off to Arian Foster and Ben Tate, throwing the occasional pass to Andre Johnson? However, what Schaub will miss out on is valuable developmental time with the Texans' new receivers vying for looks opposite AJ.Collapse -

While Matt Schaub said he would be "100 percent ready to go" in time for training camp, his coach said the Houston Texans' star quarterback won't be going full speed before then. Schaub is recovering from a surgery several months ago to repair a Lisfranc injury in his right foot and a follow-up procedure that took place in April. Schaub said he didn't doubt he would be ready and that his recovery is right on schedule. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Arian Foster and Andre Johnson are studs but they're not the only Texans that can help win you your fantasy pool. Though not held in the same esteem as the Brady's, Brees', Rodgers' and Manning's of the NFL, Schaub has been a reliable fantasy producer for years and - as long as he's healthy - should be good for another 4000 passing yard, 20-plus touchdown season.Collapse -

Beck has started seven of the nine games he has played in during his five-year career with the Dolphins and Redskins, yet is winless as a starter. Beck provides a veteran buffer behind Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates and will likely compete with rookie free agent Case Keenum for the third spot.

"If we're not paying attention, he'll do everything, but we're not going to let him do that," Kubiak said. "We're going to put the reins on him, so to speak. He will do drill work, could throw some 7-on-7, but he will not be put in a team environment where he might get tripped up or something like that happens. He's ready to go. It's us being cautious with him right now."

Schaub took part in the first day of Texans offseason activities. "I'm right on schedule because where the hardware removal takes place in this procedure is right where we are and so from here, we just move forward and just keep going," he said. "But we have a lot of time left to get ready and theres no doubt I will be ready."

Schaub's rebuilt right foot - damaged in the Tampa Bay game Nov. 13 when his old pal Albert Haynesworth stepped on him - is healing splendidly after Lisfranc surgery. As a result, Schaub is in excellent spirits, but patience remains a virtue. Asked if his life would already be back to "normal" if he were, say, a stockbroker instead of an NFL quarterback, Schaub laughed. "Is that a stockbroker who tries to work out hard and consistently," he said, "or a stockbroker who sits behind a desk all day? For just moving around, walking, I'm fine. No pain." (Houston Chronicle)
FF Today's Take: With Matt Schaub expected to be fully healed in time training camp, there is no reason to think he won't go back to posting 250 passing yard games with regularity and recording the same two to one ratio of touchdown passes to interceptions in 2012.Collapse -

These link to the industry's best IRs. These are the sites that Stegman goes to, in order, if/when he's obsessing about data on the status of an injury.
Rotoworld IR (most up to date – the Cadillac of NFL injury reports)
Matt Schaub needs only one more injury plagued season to cement the nickname “Glass Joe”:
80’s video games were tight. He has been in the league for five seasons, and a starter for two of those; he missed 10 games during that stretch. That is enough to scare many fantasy ‘ballers away on draft day. It also opens the door for potential ROI on draft day.
Schaub backed up Michael Vick for the first three years of his career on the Falcons. If you remove his rookie season numbers, his TD % (TDs per attempts) on Atlanta was 5.4%. Peyton Manning finished ’08 second overall in TD% with 4.9% for perspective. Schaub flashed a penchant for getting the ball into the end zone as a sub in Atlanta, and this surely factored into Houston’s decision to making a play for him in 2007 (they gave up two 2nd round picks).
Start Your Engines
As most QBs do, Schaub struggled a bit in his first year as head signal caller for the Texans. Besides missing five games, he threw an interception (9) for each touchdown (9) and managed a pedestrian 203 yards per game. He improved dramatically in his 2nd season despite an Offensive Coordinator change. He was sidelined for five more games, but if you were to spread his key fantasy stats over 16 games in ‘08 you are looking at roughly 4,400 yards and 22 TDs and 14.5 picks good for top nine in the league. His TD% was 3.9% (8th overall for QBs with at least 280 attempts).
2009 Fantasy Outlook
If Schaub can string together one 16 game season, he can not only avoid being called Glass Joe on this site for the rest of his career, but will also find himself among the top eight fantasy signal callers. Big if, though. He has demonstrated a knack for getting the ball in the end zone since entering the league. He is commandeering an offense that ranked 7th in pass attempts, 5th in completions, 4th in yards, and tied for 13th in TDs. Repetition and experience are key at the QB position, and Schaub now has two years under the hood in the same system, and no major changes are on the horizon.
The offensive line remains a key factor in Schaub’s # of visits to the ER. They allowed 32 sacks as a unit in ’08 (16th overall); a significant uptick from ’07 (22 sacks). Houston is returning all five of their o-line starters and two of them are in contract years (RG Mike Brisiel and LG Chester Pitts) Rookie phenom Steve Slaton starts his 2nd year after rolling for 1282 rush yards, 377 receiving yards, and 10 total TDs. He is also helped along by having one of the most dominant WRs in the game in Andre Johnson. And while defenses will continue to double up on ‘Dre, Kevin Walter has proven to be a very capable WR2 option catching eight TDs and 899 yards this past season.
When you draft Schaub, you do so understanding that QB then becomes the first position (after RB) that you need to backup. Schaub has the potential for returning higher returns relative to where you can draft him.
His first injury-free season in 2009 earns this Glass Joe an FFA Yellow Flag!!! If you plan to go early on Schaub, you should make QB among the first positions you back up in the draft.
Drafted:
2004 - Rd 3rd (90th overall) by the Atlanta Falcons

About us
FFArmory.com: Your Fantasy Football Ally!
We do two things:
1) Provide our own original content/analysis based on years of winning fantasy football leagues.
2) Aggregate the best sources of FF-related news/stats/information on the web and centralize this data at the player and team page level on our site.
Tenny Stegman (owner/founder) has been winning fantasy football leagues for over 12 years. He’s a self-professed know-it-all. Impressed? Nor was the rest of his staff, hence item #2.
The web has become one big quasi-annoying cluster @#$%. Anyone can start a google searchable blog and pretty much already has (including yours truly!).
The goal with FFArmory.com is to create one place that you can not only soak in Stegman’s genius fantasy mind (heh heh), but also find the most critical & relevant fantasy football data from sources all over the web.
We’re in this together. We encourage our users to participate as well. Are we missing a good resource? Let us know by either email, or making a permanent comment w/in the player or team profile (or anywhere on the site). With your help, we can turn FFA into the only destination required to dominate fantasy football leagues!
