The agent for Jacksonville Jaguars franchise free-agent PK Josh Scobee said his client has no plans to sign the franchise tender the Jaguars used on him Monday, March 5. Huddle Up: Yep, it's come to this: a kicker refusing to sign the tender that would pay him $2.6 million this year. Not sure what Scobee's alternatives would be at this juncture; he won't make a tenth of that in the MLS and what else are kickers qualified for? As for those who thought Scobee might actually have some fantasy value with a better offense, it looks as if you'll have to wait at least another year to test that theory.

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent PK Josh Scobee said he would be shocked if he did not re-sign with the team this offseason. Huddle Up: There is talk the Jags might use the franchise tag on Scobee, but it wouldn't be a prohibitive amount and you would think Jacksonville would only use it to buy themselves more time to ink Scobee to a long-term contract.

The Florida Times-Union reports that preliminary discussions have begun about Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee's contract, and both sides want a long-term deal reached. The franchise tag is an option for Scobee, and the Jaguars are not planning to consider using it on any of their other players. The kicker tag number is expected to be around $2.65 million. That means a kicker who is franchised will be paid that sum for a one-year deal, and it will cost two first-round picks for another team to sign him.

The Sports Xchange reports that Jacksonville has most of its top offensive players locked into contracts for the coming season with one notable exception - kicker Josh Scobee, who is an eight-year veteran. Scobee has been one of the league's most accurate kickers in his eight seasons with the Jaguars, converting better than 75 percent of his field-goal attempts in all but one season. Scobee led the team in scoring last year with 92 points, including 23 of 25 (92 percent) field-goal attempts, the second time in his career he's finished over 90 percent with his kicks. It isn't likely the Jaguars would use the franchise tag on him and probably won't have to. They'll make every attempt to sign him. For a team that was among the league's lowest scoring clubs, the Jaguars can ill afford to lose a player with Scobee's talents.
