The Denver Broncos definitely had a need for pass-catching tight ends, so on Friday, they signed a pair of such players. Denver came to terms with Joel Dreessen and Jacob Tamme. both signed three-year deals, with Tamme getting a little higher salary ($9 million to $8.5 million).
Dreessen was more of blocker than a receiver in his five years with the Houston Texans, but he has scored a total of 10 touchdowns over the past two seasons. Tamme was an unknown commodity until an injury to Dallas Clark thrust him into the Colts' starting lineup in 2010. In nine games that season, Tamme caught 67 passes for 631 yards and four touchdowns. Now, he and Peyton Manning have been reunited. FANTASY ANALYSIS: I think Tamme is intriguing here given his past with Manning and Peyton's affinity for his tight ends. Tamme has already shown that he can be a valuable PPR target with Manning, so while he may have to fight for the starting job -- the Broncos also have three tight ends besides the two newbies on the current roster -- he could turn into a TE sleeper for 2012. Dreessen will probably stay in his role as a blocker who is used as a receiver mainly down by the goal line.

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with free-agent CB Tracy Porter (Saints) on a one-year deal worth $4 million. Huddle Up: What a steal for a 25-year old corner who's already started 39 career games. Porter will start opposite Champ Bailey. Denver has made a quite a splash in free agency, and they might not be done yet: Look for TE Joel Dreessen or TE Dallas Clark to come aboard too.

If Houston Texans impending free-agent TE Joel Dreessen departs in the offseason, it could mean a big lift for FB James Casey. Casey, who spent most of 2011 at fullback after being converted to the position during training camp, caught 18 passes last season. Moving Casey back to his original position and pairing him with TE Owen Daniels would give the Texans two downfield threats at the position. The Texans could feature more two-tight end sets in 2012 after Daniels and Dreessen combined for 82 receptions, 1,113 yards and nine touchdowns last season. Huddle Up: Casey is more athletic than Dreessen, but the key will be how Casey holds up as a blocker in Houston's powerful running game. There are enough numbers there to make two Texan tight ends viable fantasy options, though not in the Gronkowski/Hernandez mold. And if Dreessen re-signs and there are three players battling for those stats, it makes all of them risky fantasy plays.
