The Steelers have been long known for their hard-nosed defense and ground and pound mentality, and the TE is mainly used for blocking purposes. Heath Miller is capable of so much more, but has accepted his role in the Steeler offense. That $35 million they dropped on him this past July couldn't have had anything to do with it.

TEs who can block as well as they can catch are a rarity in the NFL, but Heath manages this combo better than most of 'em, and the Steelers know it. He's averaged over 500 receiving yards and five TDs over the past two seasons, but managed to fall out of fantasy favor in '08 as Big Ben's numbers took a nosedive from his unreasonable '07 performance that saw him manage an unrepeatable 7.9% TD per attempt ratio. Too bad blocking well isn't scored in fantasy.
Roethlisberger only targeted Heath six times in the red-zone (out of 55 total passes) in 2008 (and again, three resulting in TDs). The Steelers run plenty of two and three TE sets, so the presence of Matt Spaeth does not have us sweating. What does have us sweating is the fact that we don't think there are enough yards or TDs to go around for Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward, and Heath Miller. And the third option on a team that doesn't pass the ball a whole lot, has us rather luke-warm on this one. Make Heath the 10th TE off the board this summer.
Missed two games in the middle of 2008 with an ankle injury, and had surgery for a sports hernia this off-season.
