Chris Johnson Profile at Pro-Football-Reference
Pro Football Reference is open source and a highly enriched statistic website. The guy who runs this knows what he's doing.
Compare all RBs using FFToday.com's stat cruncher
FFToday.com's stat cruncher is the best in the biz. It's quick and sortable and highly user-friendly.
These link to the industry's best IRs. These are the sites that Stegman goes to, in order, if/when he's obsessing about data on the status of an injury.
Jockbio.com is a phenomenal site that writes up quite comprehensive biographies on professional athletes. The problem is that the site is not well designed and much of their content is buried. With this link, consider this diamond unearthed! Don't forget to check out the tabbed info that includes player quotes and other random stats.
Wikipedia is the mother-ship of online content. By the people, for the people!
Johnson signed a five-year, $12 million rookie deal that included $7 million guaranteed. The remaining years of the contract payout as follows:
2009 - $385,000
2010 - $550,000
2011 - $800,000
2012 - $960,000
2013 - Free Agent
His contract does not affect his fantasy value heading into 2009.
Javon Ringer - With CJ28 holding out over the summer, Ringer has gotten unexpected snaps w/ the first team making him the obvious handcuff. CJ28 owners will have to plan extra early for Ringer.
Six Pounds
Chris Johnson ran a 4.24 40-yard dash; the fastest clocked by a RB at the NFL Combine. Oye! This guy ran himself into the ground in 2008 to the point that he lost six pounds by the end of the year and was being forced to eat more by Titan trainers. LenDale needs to teach this cat how to eat more. Johnson has been working on his strength and conditioning in the off-season and he could afford to carry a few extra pounds heading into the 2009 season.
Check out the video below of Chris's rookie highlights. Apologies for the Iron Maiden soundtrack, actually, we'd have put "The Trooper" in on that one had we done it ourselves...
but solid work numero805...
Besides his endurance, there is another stat that is worthy of consideration and is cause for concern. His four 100+ yard games came against weak defenses: 109 yards vs. Cincinnati (21st ranked rush defense), 168 yards vs. Kansas City (30th ranked rush defense), 125 yards vs. Detroit (32nd ranked rush defense), and 136 yards vs. Cleveland (28th ranked rush defense). That leaves him with 690 yards over the other 11 games he played in for a 62.7 yard average. His schedule is not quite as forbidding in 2009, but there are a couple matches to circle (Houston twice, Buffalo in week 10, St Louis week 14,). With LenDale and a speed demon in tow, these Titans have formed a more formidable version of USC's "Thunder and Lightning", and while that helps CJ28's game, it hurts his fantasy owners.

Johnson's biggest (pun intended) problem, from a fantasy perspective, is tub of goo Lendale White. As long as White is around and in good standing with his coaching staff, he can expect the bulk of the short yardage and goal-line carries. Chris has plenty of potential to increase his production and should see another 300 or so touches this season. His receiving average should be higher than the six per catch number he posted in 2008, so look for that to improve as he becomes more comfortable at the pro level. The TD count is a crap-shoot as long as the Pillsbury Dough Boy is working the goal-line carries. The Titans coaching staff are intent on finding more and better ways to get the ball in CJ28's hands, as they have not forgotten how he was able to toy with the Ravens' #3 ranked defense before going down with an ankle injury in the NFL '08 playoffs... 11 carries for 72 yards and a TD - in the first half!
Johnson finished just outside the top-10 RBs in most fantasy scoring formats. His touches are going to increase, and his speed, youth, and the Titan offensive line are enough to convince us to make him the 8th RB off the board this summer.
CJ28 looks to be healthy and in good shape going into 2009. Draft at will.
