In July of '07, Stuckey signed a four-year, $1.625 million contract that included a $34,775 signing bonus. Here are the rest of the particulars:
2009 - $460,000
2010 - $550,000
2011 - Free Agent
Back in February of this off-season, the Jets got together with Laveranues Coles with the hopes of re-signing the steady WR. Coles was completely open to coming back to play for the Jets, but wanted a long-term contract when the Jets were looking for something a little less permanent. In the end, with the differences between the two camps coming to a stalemate, the Jets decided to let Coles test the free agent market and take a chance on young Chansi Stuckey being their #2 WR.
Being a 7th-round draft pick back in 2007, Stuckey has had to work hard to gain the respect of his coaches and stay in the NFL. He doesn't have the physical gifts that many other WRs possess, running only a 4.5 40-yard dash while standing 6'0" and weighing 185 lbs., but he still makes things happen on the field one way or another. In 2007, his 11 receptions in the preseason made for a very promising start to his career, but unfortunately, he broke his right foot and was placed on IR for the entire regular season. Then to start the 2008 season, even though he wasn't a starter, Stuckey went on to catch touchdowns in each of the team's first three games. He has great hands and has an amazing ability after the catch to make the most of every play. Basically, this kid simply gets the job done and could end up surprising some people as a start in 2009.
Stuckey has the potential to become a pretty good #2 receiver in real life for the Jets, but as for this upcoming fantasy season, with rookie QB Mark Sanchez likely running the ship, we don't see much hope. You won't even need to look for him on the waiver wire this season. We probably shouldn't say that, because Drew Bennett came out of nowhere in 2004 to rip off 1,247 yards and 11 TDs... most of it from a career backup QB (Billy Volek).
Blah blah blah. It doesn’t matter. He's fine.
