The Salukian Nightmare

Yardage-only fantasy league users take note... Jacobs is not your guy.  And while we have you - what the hell are you doing in a yardage only league anyway?  Sounds like good times.  Seriously, keep up the good work.

This beast is a 6'4", 264-pound keg of gunpowder.  Brandon Jacobs puts a hurt on defenders that is reminiscent of former Kansas City Chief and Tecmo Bowl extraordinaire; Christian Okoye, a.k.a. The Nigerian Nightmare.  And like Okoye, Jacobs is destined for an abbreviated career if he doesn't tone down his running style a bit.  This is not an opinion.  The human condition is not conducive to the type of abuse he dishes, and subsequently takes, on a typical Sunday.  You know what they say:  The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and we'll case and point here; cherish every play he has left.

Skilled Big Man

He brings more than a lights-out fore-arm and punishing load to the table.  He runs a 4.51 40-yard dash and has consistently displayed the ability to throw a move or two to get past the line of scrimmage without taking much of a hit.  Be clear, he is more often blasting his way in-between the tackles, but can turn a corner on the outside as well.  He is basically un-stoppable in short yardage and goal-line situations, and it is here where he holds the most fantasy value.  He is truly the definition of "downhill runner".

The G-Men's Juggernaut

Hit mute - the background voice on this is enough to drive you nuts:

Oh $#!T, What is he packing in that fore-arm?  The "trucking" of the Redskins' Laron Landry is a riot, especially because Landry is such a smug prick.

Unfortunately, it works both ways.  Jacobs is never the biggest guy on the field, and on occasion, can meet his match...

He got up fine from this one, but one gander at his Games Played stat column and it's pretty clear that he needs to cash in now.

2009 Fantasy Outlook

A lot is being made of the Burress departure and the effect it will have on the entire Giant offense.  Jacobs did fine in the three regular-season games without him in 2008 racking up four TDs and 225 total yards and then 92 yards in one play-off game.  The Giants drafted the highly touted Hakeem Nicks with their first round pick.  They chose to pass on trading for Anquan Boldin and go with the fresh legs.  Fine.  Here's to hoping Nicks plays his way onto the field sooner than latter, because the Giant's current starters (Domenik Hixon and the "other" Steve Smith) are the worst tandem in the league.  Jacobs WILL see eight man fronts and his yards may be harder to come by.   As much as we bow to Jacobs the NFL RB, we are sorta bowing out on Jacobs the fantasy RB with our ranking.    A rookie WR cannot be depended on to balance out this offense, nor can the others they have on staff.

2008

Brandon was prolific in '08 in what probably amounts to the ideal workload.  He was hurt three games (get used to this and just hope it doesn't happen during the fantasy playoffs) but managed 15 total TDs on 225 total touches.  If the Giants want to make the most of Jacobs's recently inked four year 25 million contract, they will continue to keep his touches under 18 per game.  Earth (Jacobs), Wind (Derrick Ward) & Fire (Ahmad Bradshaw) broke up in the off-season.  Ward had a busy offseason, cashing in on his Giant success taking the Buccaneers for a $17 million ride, and scoring Bruce Jenner's manly daughter in law.  Bradshaw is an average change of pace RB and will have to battle Frank Ware and rookie Andre Brown for carries.  We don't see the departure of Ward as having much bearing on Jacobs '09 value.

Injury Alert

Yellow

Brandon is always going to miss a few games due to his running style. He’s dealt with arm, hamstring, and most recently, a knee injury. It’s a standing concern with this beastly mass.
