The Jacksonville Jaguars got the wide receiver they so desperately needed to team with their young quarterback. The Jags took Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon with the No. 5 pick Thursday night. Jacksonville moved up to draft the two-time All-American in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It cost the Jaguars their No. 7 overall pick as well as a pick in the fourth and seventh round. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Jaguars signed free agent Laurent Robinson, but Blackmon gives the Jaguars a tall, big-play threat. He's not going to blow the doors off of any defense -- he has drawn comparisons to Anquan Boldin -- but he can be a huge volume receiver with the ability to break tackles. It's something that QB Blaine Gabbert required. But I'm not sure this pick will cure all that ails him. His pocket presence is still horrid, and Blackmon's immediate fantasy numbers will suffer. I'd give Blackmon a look in a PPR league.

CBSSports.com Senior NFL Columnist Pete Prisco reports that Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who struggled in his rookie year in 2011, is confident heading into his second year. "I have to respond on the football field," Gabbert said last week during a break from offseason workouts. "The biggest thing I worry about is my teammates. How do they feel about me? I can't worry about what people are saying. When somebody says something, people run with it. That's what happened. I can't worry about that." The new Jaguars staff -- and especially the front office -- still believes in Gabbert. And Prisco reports "just to make sure, I checked with some of the players I trust and asked them privately about his toughness. To a man, they all said he was plenty tough." Gabbert played most of the season with a toe injury on his right, plant foot. He never complained about it and didn't miss time because of it. "You have to play through stuff like that," he said. "People expect you on the field. It's just part of the deal. You have to learn to deal with the pain, whether it's a lot of pain or a little pain. You have to push through it."

Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert reviewed each of his plays from last season, dissecting clips from what he called an "outsider's point of view," and saw what most critics realized: He needs to make progress. As a rookie, Gabbert completed 50.8 percent of his passes for 2,214 yards, with 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and was sacked a whopping 40 times. The Jaguars believe a full offseason and a revamped receiving corps will work wonders for Gabbert, who admitted that he played with a toe injury last year. "I'm excited about the opportunity to work with him," new head coach Mike Mularkey said. "I'd like to give him a chance with some of the things we're going to hopefully help him do. We feel like we can help him develop his talents. There's a lot that he does very well and we just need to get that to be a consistent thing."

After the Jaguars struck out on acquiring Tim Tebow from the Broncos, Jaguars owner Shad Khan issued a statement on the future of the team and specifically quarterback Blaine Gabbert. "Earlier this week I asked Gene Smith and his staff to explore the potential of acquiring Tim Tebow. I think we have a duty to consider all avenues of improving the Jaguars on and off the field, especially given the unique circumstances involving the player. I appreciate the high level of due diligence Gene and his staff dedicated to this matter, even as late as this evening, and I am very satisfied with the outcome. Our commitment to developing Blaine Gabbert was, and still is, central to our goal of returning the Jaguars to elite status in the NFL. Were looking ahead with zero regrets."

The Jacksonville Jaguars will reportedly not be among the teams pursuing free-agent QB Peyton Manning (Colts). The Jaguars are committed to building for the long-term future and believe QB Blaine Gabbert is the man to lead that building program. Huddle Up: Actually, the Jags know they have no chance of landing Manning. Only 25 wins in four years, two Pro-Bowlers on the entire roster, a half-empty stadium, and a new head coach in Mike Mularkey. No chance.
