Subject: Hey Shithead

The season starts in 5 weeks in case you didn't know. Where in the fuck are the statistical break downs? I come to your site for your convenient and simple set up and relative statistical info... and your satire. The only thing you've posted is "Coming Soon... Stegman's genius fantasy mind." Well, if Stegman is such a genius then he'd know that every passing day with nothing on the site brings with it a loss in viewership and page hits. You're slacking, fuckface. Get it together!!

Sincerely,

What NFL Teams Are Playing for In Week 17

week 17 2010 what nfl teams are playing for?

I have a policy and it goes like this...

...I will not participate in head to head season-long fantasy football leagues that play their Super Bowl (or any portion thereof) during Week 17.

NFL teams that have already secured their playoff position or are mathematically eliminated treat Week 17 much like their third pre-season contest;  a time to fire up their second teamers.  This is more prevalent for teams that have locked up their playoff spots, but guys on teams that have been eliminated that are nursing knee or ankle sprains are probably riding pine by half-time (if they play at all).  Who needs 16 weeks of brutal competition to boil down to either?  No thanks.

I’m a bit editorially hung over from seven straight months of doing NFL research, but here are a few examples from 2009 off the top of my head:

A comprehensive audit of last and previous years will reveal a ton more, but the point is, the allure of extending fantasy leagues to include an extra week is just not worth the heartbreak and frustration that will likely ensure.

On the other hand, the emergence of weekly contests for cash has made Week 17 relevant again as the playing field is level with a weekly draft.

With that, I’d like to take a comprehensive look at what is at stake for all 32 NFL teams and how it could potentially affect fantasy producers during the final week of the regular season.

NFC West

San Francisco 49ers – Eliminated from the playoffs – Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis should be out there trying to pad their stats, so no real concerns, here.

St. Louis Rams – A win and they lock up a division title, with an 8-8 record, no less.

Seattle Seahawks – They trail the Rams by a game and face them in Week 17, so plenty at stake for them.

Arizona Cardinals – Eliminated from the playoffs – Larry Fitzgerald is not nursing any significant injury and is looking to extend his record of a reception in 97 straight games intact.

NFC South

Atlanta Falcons – A win in Week 17 and they secure their first division title since 2004 and only fourth in franchise history, so they’ll be gunning in this one.

New Orleans Saints – A win and an Atlanta loss and they could win the division, but they have locked up a wild-card at worst. The good news is that both teams kick early on Sunday, so expect a full effort from the Saints.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – A win would keep their wild-card hopes alive, so they will be playing their studs in all four quarters.

Carolina Panthers – Eliminated from the playoffs and then some – the only fantasy consideration is Jonathan Stewart, and I expect him to be out there trying to pad his 2010 stats.

NFC North

Chicago Bears – They have won the NFC North but are neck and neck with the Eagles for that valuable two-seed, and could possibly catch Atlanta for a one-seed, in either event, can earn a 1st round bye, so Cutler (who is surging), Forte, and Knox should be leaving it all out on the field in Lambeau this Sunday.

Green Bay Packers – A win will guarantee them a wild-card by way of their romping of the New York Giants last weekend.

Minnesota Vikings – Eliminated from the playoffs – Adrian Peterson will be a huge question mark as he is already nursing a bruised thigh injury that kept him out of Week 15.

Detroit Lions – Eliminated from the playoffs – The Lions have nothing to play for, but Mega-tron was out there producing in Week 17 in 2009, so just be sure to comb the injury reports before considering any Lions in Week 17.  Calvin did miss some practice time this week and is said to be a game-time decision.

NFC East

Philadelphia Eagles – They have locked up a division title, however are still competing for a first round bye, so I expect to see full participation in Week 17.

New York Giants – They are playing for their playoff lives (vs. Tampa and Green Bay) after dropping their last two, and they have a juicy fantasy match up vs. the Redskins.

Dallas Cowboys – Eliminated from the playoffs – Jason Garrett is still interviewing for the coaching slot in Dallas, so while injury could play a factor (Kitna went down in Week 16), all healthy fantasy ballers’ (Miles Austin) should be given normal consideration.

Washington Redskins – Eliminated from the playoffs – Ryan Torain should be out there trying to prove his value to the organization, but I’d be wary of an old veteran like Santana Moss.

AFC West

Kansas City Chiefs – They have locked up a division title and cannot catch either Pittsburgh or Baltimore for a bye week due to their conference record trailing both.  They face Oakland in a meaningless game for both and I would not be shocked to see their stars grabbing some pine at half-time.

San Diego Chargers – Eliminated from the playoffs – The Bolts face Denver in a meaningless game for both clubs, but Rivers, Tolbert, rookie Ryan Mathews, and Vincent Jackson should all be competing in the absence of any minor injuries.

Oakland Raiders – Eliminated from the playoffs – As with the Chargers, only dinged up Raiders are at risk of bench time in this one, however extra attention should be paid to their news breakers.

Denver Broncos – Eliminated from the playoffs – Here is a perfect example – Knowshon Moreno “could have gone” last week after injuring his ribs, but with nothing on the line, why bother?  Keep close tabs on all news breakers for fantasy Bronco ‘ballers.

AFC South

Indianapolis Colts – What a difference a year makes.  Owners of Colts do not need to stress in this one as they need a win to secure a playoff spot.  They split games with Jacksonville, who they lead by a game, but with identical conference and divisional records, if they were to lose, it would boil down to common opponent’s record, which will be decided via Week 17.

Jacksonville Jaguars – Ditto above, and be mindful that MJD is all kinds of banged up.

Tennessee Titans – Eliminated from the playoffs – CJ28 was running full bore in Week 17 last year with nothing on the line, and I see no reason he won’t be seeking to do the same this year.  One more factor to consider is that the game is vs. the Colts, and there is nothing like playing spoiler to a divisional foe.

Houston Texans – Eliminated from the playoffs – You can expect Andre Johnson to again sit, given he is nursing an injury that kept him out of action in Week 16.  Arian Foster was out there for a full load despite missing a few practices last week, and with 1,500 rushing yards within grasp, he should be out there for 20+ touches.

AFC North

Pittsburgh Steelers – They are tied with the Ravens in record, head to head, and conference record, so the bottom line is that they need to win to ensure a divisional title and first round bye.

Baltimore Ravens – Ditto with the Steelers.  This will be a full effort.  Also, both the Ravens and Steelers play at 1pm EST, so there is no danger of a rollover in the later games by either.

Cincinnati Bengals – Eliminated from the playoffs – Guys like Ochocinco will probably ride pine because of injury, but I wouldn’t worry about Cedric Benson taking time off, given that he is playing for a contract and is of full health.

Cleveland Browns – Eliminated from the playoffs – The only worthy fantasy consideration should be avoided (Peyton HIllis) because A) he is playing the Steelers and B) he is nursing a knee injury and there is no point in him risking it further.

AFC East

New England Patriots – They have a one-seed sealed and expect that Brady, Welker, Branch, and Benjarvus Green-Ellis to all be riding pine by half-time.

New York Jets – They have a wild-card berth locked up, and all that is at stake is which division winner they face as either the five or six seed.  This is where it gets very interesting.  My guess is that they’d much prefer to face the Chiefs than the Colts.  If things ended today, they’d be playing the Chiefs.  However that all can change based on Week 17’s games.  If the Colts win and the Chiefs lose, the Colts become the three seed which would pair them up with the Jets if they lose.  There are about five other scenarios that could affect this (getting as granular as common opponent record compared with Baltimore and Pittsburgh), and I don’t pretend to know how much Rexxy cares.

Miami Dolphins – Eliminated from the playoffs – The fantasy-worthy players (basically just Brandon Marshall) should be out there padding stats, but ride their news breakers hard this week as well.

Buffalo Bills – Eliminated from the playoffs – I wouldn’t worry about any key Bills’ players sitting this one out, except for the fact that they are playing the Jets.

Start 'Em - Sit 'Em - Fantasy Bowl Week 16

Week 16!

Start 'Em

QB

John Kitna - @ Arizona – Jason Garrett should have a job next summer, check it:  He took over six weeks ago and this offense has scored no less than 27 points in each game and has averaged 32.2 per.  They have gone 4-2 after a miserable start at the direction of the lifeless Wade Phillips.  The players have responded to Garrett, and no one more so than his QB2.  Kitna has exceeded all expectations in Tony Romo’s place averaging a healthy 21.3 fantasy PPG since taking over.  Kitna faces a highly over-rated Arizona defense that ranks 8th best according to the stat charts, but their competition (primarily in the NFC West) has been weak.  Nine of the 14 QB’s Arizona has faced this season rank 20th or worse in fantasy average points among QBs.  If you are desperate for a concern relative to Kitna, I suppose the fact that the AZ’s inability to score is concerning, although journeyman Rex Grossman looked like an all-pro notching his 2nd 300+ yard passing afternoon and was able to add four TD passes on this Dallas D, so my guess is John Skelton should be able to get something going through the air, forcing the Cowboys to pass to keep a lead.

Matt Ryan – Home vs New Orleans – Ryan has played exceptional at home in his career leading the Falcons to a 19-1 record in the Georgia Dome.  His only loss came when Roddy White dropped a sure TD pass in the finals minutes in a game against Denver that would have given them the lead. This season Ryan is 6-0 at home averaging 257 passing yards and two TD.  After three straight games on the road Ryan will be returning home to face the New Orleans Saints. The Saints rank second in fantasy points allowed to QB but have rarely been tested.  The Saints have not faced a top nine fantasy QB yet this season, and only have faced three top 15 fantasy QBs so far. Beyond that, you may want to consider that Matt Ryan is averaging over 22 fantasy PPG over his career facing division rival New Orleans.

Tim Tebow – Home vs Houston – 200 yards passing, 50 yards rushing & a couple of TD passes are a real possibility for Tebow this week against a Texans defense that has allowed at least 19.7 fantasy points to all QBs they faced except Florida Atlantic U’s own Rusty “Trombone” Smith.  The Texans are allowing an average of 289 yards passing and 2.2 TD to opposing QBs in 2010. While Tebow may be a little risky to play  since it’s most likely your fantasy super bowl,  he makes for an intriguing play in weekly contest do to his low salary.  Obviously, if you play in a two QB league, you must consider him.

Rex Grossman – @ Jacksonville – Yes, we are on the Grossman bandwagon for at least one week.  Yes, it’s true, his 32 fantasy points in Week 15 came against a Cowboys defense that has allowed the second most points to fantasy QBs this season.  This week Grossman has another great match up against a Jaguars defense that has allowed the 5th most points to fantasy QB this year.  In 11 of 14 games this season a QB facing the Jaguars has scored at least 19.2 fantasy points (the lone holdouts were the Titans QB corps led by the talented Rusty Smith, Vince Young, and Kerry Collins, and then Matt Cassel).  Jason Campbell & Colt McCoy both went for over 20 fantasy PPG vs. this Jags D.  Another thing Grossman has going for him is the Redskins defense might actually be worse than the Jaguars. Over the Redskins last seven games they are allowing 30 points per game.

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Home vs New England – The Pats have given up the 3rd most fantasy points QBs this season, and while many had thought they had turned the corner after healthy outings vs. the Jets and Bears, they seem to have reverted to their old ways last week against QB2 Matt Flynn by allowing him 25.9 fantasy points. Fitzpatrick has slowed  down as  of late only averaging 16.8 fantasy over his last four games after averaging  23.5 in his first eight games.  He came back around last week vs. a stout Miami pass D going for 223 yards and two TDs.   He faced the Pats in Week three and rattled off 22.2  fantasy points in his first start of this season.  This is a solid match up with no pressure.  He’s worth a look in deeper leagues, and weekly salary leagues.

Matt Schuab - @ Denver – Schaub investors who held onto him all year and still managed to slip into the playoffs are being rewarded huge with his last three games in which he’s averaging 351 yards per while throwing 7 TDs.  If Schaub passing attempts can reach at least 35 he should have a big game. The Broncos are giving up an average of 22.33 fantasy points to QBs over their last eight games and check out their competition: Jason Campbell (twice), Troy Smith, Matt Cassel (twice), Sam Bradford, Philip Rivers, & John Skeleton. Jason  Campbell,Troy Smith,Matt Cassell and Sam Bradford all scored at least 20+ points against Denver.  Make sure to monitor the health of Andre Johnson, though, as he is listed as a game-time decision.

RB

Benjarvus Green-Ellis - @ Buffalo – He had a nice line last week considering it was vs. the Packers.  He is only the 4th RB to score 10 or more fantasy points vs. them.  The Bills are 3rd worst allowing 14 TDs on the season and an average of 141 rush yards per game. Ronnie Brown has three double digit fantasy point games in 2010 and two of have come vs. the Bills.  BJGE has 96 carries for 439 yards and five scores over his last six games which is solid.  It’s more solid when you review who he’s played (Steelers, Packers, and Jets who are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best-  and another was vs. the Bears, who are 8th best)   In an earlier meeting with Buffalo Green-Ellis rushed for 98 yards and a score on only 16 carries and scored 16.4 fantasy points

Felix Jones & Tashard Choice - @ Arizona – Only play one of these guys if Marion Barber is inactive, otherwise, there is no empirical data to point to which of the three will dominate carries or goal-line touches.  Arizona currently ranks second worst in fantasy points allowed to RB, so it would be a fantasy shame if Barber does play.

The Cowboys have really committed to the run since Jason Garrett took over averaging 31 attempts in six games versus only 21 attempts in eight games with Wade Philips. The Redskins allowed Choice and Jones to notch a total of 26 fantasy points in Week 15.  Choice is the better option as he is the goal-line guy, but Jones should also see about 15 touches in this one and at least used to be a threat to bust off a long one, though not as much this season.

LaGarrette Blount – Home vs Seattle – Blount has gone over the century mark and scored a TD in two of this last three contests. He is averaging an impressive 5.3 YPC over his last five games and 4.7 YPC on the season. He’s been even more effective at home scoring a minimum of 15 fantasy points in his last three home games. Here is a nice complementary stat for you: Over the Seahawks last four road games they have given up an average of 192 total yards to RBs and have allowed an average of 26.73 fantasy points (to RBs) in the four games.

Ryan Torain - @ Jacksonville – When Torain plays, he is productive.  He’s played in eight games this season, and has either gone over 100, scored a touchdown, or both in six of the eight games.  He had two lean games vs. the Rams (14th best vs. the run)  in Week three and the Packers (3rd best) in Week five.   Torain will face the 21st ranked Jaguar rush defense who is allowing 4.63 YPC and 14 TDs on the year. They’ve been even worse the last two games allowing Darren McFadden and Donald Brown to rush for over eight yards per carry and rack up multiple scores. Four different RBs have had their best fantasy outings for 2010 (Joseph Addai, Donald Brown,Mike Tolbert, & Thomas Jones) and McFadden had a close 2nd (his Denver game was slightly better).

Mike Tolbert – @ Cincinnati - Ryan Matthews started last week but anyone who watched the game knows who San Diego’s real RB1 is.  Tolbert got 17 of the first 22 carries last week and scored another TD.  Tolbert has 11 TDs on the season and has scored in nine of his last eleven games. The Bengals rank 12th best in fantasy points allowed to RBs but in the last five weeks have allowed  both Chris Ivory and Fred Jackson to top 23.5 points each.  Even if the defense holds Tolbert in check he should have plenty of opportunities to score as the Chargers are among the top teams in goal-line attempts in 2010.

Rashad Jennings – Home vs. Washington – MJD is doubtful and if he DNPs, Jennings is a no-brainer.  MJD was not able to finish the game last week.  Jennings has looked good in limited action averaging 6.8 YPC this season.  Even if you take away his 74 yard TD run a couple of week ago he still is averaging 5.3 YPC.  The Jags will be welcoming a Redskins rush defense that is allowing 167.4 total yards to RBs per contest and ranks 8th worst in fantasy points allowed to RBs at 21.9 fantasy PPG.    They’ve been worse of late, for over their last six games they are coughing up 27.1 fantasy PPG to RBs. For perspective, Denver has allowed the most points to fantasy RBs with an average of 26.8 per game. Ride the news-breakers up until the last possible minute and make the right call.

WR

Santana Moss - @ Jacksonville – Moss has been hot the last two weeks combining for 15 receptions for 154 yards and scoring three TDs. The Jags are allowing over 12 fantasy PPG to WR1s on the season, and in 11 of their 14 games at least one receiver has scored 11.7 fantasy points against them.   The three games it didn’t happen were vs. the Titans twice and Cleveland, and we need not explain how poor those passing attacks are.  Also, Britt was not in the 2nd meeting and in the first he did catch a TD to go along with about 30 or yards, so he was close.  Moss should toy with this secondary assuming Rex Grossman does not implode.

Wes Welker & Deion Branch - @ Buffalo – This is a welcome match up for the Patriot wide outs, as few teams have had a rougher schedule in the NFL than New England where the pass defenses are concerned.  The Bills have allowed the 8th fewest fantasy points to WRs however have been more porous of late giving up 289 yards and three TDs to Sidney Rice, Davone Bess, & Brandon Marshall in their last two.  In an earlier meeting this season with the Bills, Tom Brady threw for 252 yards and three TDs and completed 78 percent of his passes. Branch missed a few practices this week but appears on target to play.  Welker is a no-brainer.

Josh Morgan –  @ St. Louis – Fine, this is a stretch; some might call it a “super” sleeper.  If we were into labeling every piece of analysis, maybe we would call it just that.  Lucky for you, we aren’t; we feel start’em – sit’em covers most.  This advice is for teams in deeper leagues with this cat sitting at the end of your bench, while you have other much more questionable options, but check it:  Morgan has been targeted 12 times in two games and has caught 10 of those for 188 yards and a score. He became only the third receiver this season to reach 100 yards against the Chargers in Week 15.  Meanwhile, Crabtree has seemed to fallen out of favor with the organization and his numbers are showing it. He has caught four of his nine targets for 18 yards and no TDs during the same two week stretch.  Crabtree, though, will continue to draw the top coverage, leaving Morgan with easier match ups, and St. Louis ranks 11th worst in fantasy points allowed to WRs.  It’s a stretch, but I’d start him over Crabtree without hesitation.

Steve Johnson – Home vs New England – Stevie got himself off the shneid last Sunday with his TD catch, his first since tweeting and blaming God for dropping that game-winner vs. the Steelers.  He is 57 yards away from his first 1,000 season and that will likely happen this weekend vs. a Patriots pass defense that allows the 5th most fantasy points to WRs on the season and 9th most over the last five weeks. Finally, and this is key, opponents of the Patriots are averaging 38.4 pass attempts per game making this call rather easy.

Mike Williams – Home vs. Seattle – This is, perhaps, his best match up of the season as he's playing at home and facing the 3rd most porous fantasy pass defense in the NFL.  He torched the Lions for 96 yards on six catches and a score in Week 15 and currently sits 15th on the fantasy WR stack rankings... the dude's a rookie playing with a second year QB; he's special.  He's also a high-end WR2 this Sunday.

Pierre Garcon - @ Oakland – Garcon only goes as far as Collie will let him.  "Huh?" you ask?  What I mean is, if Collie is in the game, get Garcon out of it, because his stats have been dreadful in games that Collie has been healthy (Week six withstanding).  And good news, Collie owners, Collie has been placed on the IR leaving Garcon as Manning's 2nd target facing a Raider pass D that is short one healthy Nnamdi Asomaghu.  Since Nnamdi has been dinged up, this Raider pass D has struggled; on the season they are 8th best defending fantasy WRs, however over the last five games they've allowed the 10th most fantasy points to WRs.  Garcon makes for a rock solid WR2 play this weekend.

TE

Jason Witten - @ Arizona - He has come alive since Kitna took over and with Antonio Gates on the pines most likely for the remainder of the season, Witten is now the top TE on the board.  He is averaging 12.8 fantasy points over his last five games which is 5.1 points higher than the next closest TE.  He has notched four TDs in his last three games after scoring  only four TDs in his previous 27 games.

Kicker

David Buehler -  @ Arizona - The Cowboys offense is cooking and Buehler has been a big beneficiary. Over his last four games Buehler is averaging 11.3 fantasy points. This week he goes up against an Arizona team that is allowing a league high 3.5 FGA per game. In three games againzt Arizona Olindo Mare and John Kasey combined to kick 14 FG . In their other 25 games combined the two kickers only have made 25 FG

Sit Em

It's week 16, and if you've managed your team this far, you shouldn't need sit'em advice, but moreso who to play over who advice.  So we will go on ahead and play Master of the Obvious by drawing up the biggest bust of 2010, but other than that, please email us stegman@ffarmory.com with any questions and we will be happy to respond asap.

WR

Randy Moss - @ Kansas City – This guy should of kept his trap shut. He could of ended up with great numbers playing with Tom Brady heading into free agency next year and would have been in high demand.  Now there won’t be as many suitors and his deal won’t be for  1/4 of what it would have been. Moss is now a backup on the 29th ranked passing offense in football.  He does not see the field much and has not been targeted in the last two games

Critical Fantasy Stats

Red Zone Targets: Thru Week 15

Red Zone targets thru week 15

Stats thru Week 15!

Observations:

Santana Moss must be lamenting on why it took so long for Mike Shenanigans to make the switch from McNabb to Rex Grossman.  Kidding, he's probably not, but he's also not complaining about it given his five red zone targets in Week 15.

Well, TO owners, it was a nice run.  He laid a big giant fat goose turd for you in the playoffs, but he undoubtedly got you there.  There are no points for getting bounced out in the first or second round (at least not in any league I play in), but the takeaway here, is that TO isn't done, and while he nursed a knee injury here the last couple of weeks, owners must be calculated in assessing his value depending on where he lands.  If he ends up with another bottom-feeder (Bengals/Bills), as long as there is an able-bodied QB, don't hesitate to invest in him, but keep him in your trade-high bucket.  His problems, though, are that his options are likely limited and might just take the highest bidder to close out his career.

Miles Austin was targeted by Kitna five times in Week 15 after being largely ignored over the four previous weeks.  The timing is perfect heading into the Super Bowl, although, don't be quick to write this one off as an easy match up as the Cardinals have allowed the 7th fewest fantasy points over the last five games.  Still, I think Austin could bust free for a long one while these two teams keep each other company in a meaningless Week 16 for both.

Danny Amendola owners (queue chuckle) might want to consider him as a deep sleeper in Week 16 based on his four RZ targets from last week.  I am having a monster feeling about Bradford in this one, and where RZ targets are, fantasy points are close behind (See Earl Bennett).  Yes, you have to be desperate if you are starting Amendola and in the Super Bowl, but maybe this snippet is for teams competing in some type of consolation round?  I don't know, I just like him, and will be ranking w/in the top 30 WRs for this Sunday.

(queue Darth Vader voice) "Mike Sims..Waaaaaaaalker" I am your faaaaahhhtha.  I am also weird, and totally sober, I swear.   Now that I have your attention, you might want to go on ahead and give his cat a serious consideration this weekend in the Jags' must-win game against the Redskins' secondary that allows the 7th most fantasy points to WRs.  Yes, they've been stingier of late (3rd fewest over their last five games) but those were against weaker passing offenses including Vikings, Titans, Tampa, Dallas, and the Giants (without Nicks or Steve Smith).  PS - MSW did tweak his ankle en route to catching to TDs in Week 15, but he should be good to go.  Just double check the FFArmory.com news-breakers for the latest.

Goal-line Carry Attempts: Stats Thru Week 15!

There were 30 more goal-line carries (rush attempts 3 yards or closer in opponent's red zone) of which 10 were converted into touchdowns.

Run DMC owners would be wise to consider starting both Raider ball carriers (he and Michael Bush) this Sunday as the Raiders play host to the porous run defending Indy Colts.  Bush was given all three of the goal-line carries and he converted two of them into scores.  It's a prettty solid 1-2 punch and the Colts allow the 7th most fantasy points to opposing RBs.

Jamaal Charles was given his second goal-line carry this past Sunday and oh gee, shocker, he converted that one, too. So here is the count... Thomas Jones has 11 goal-line attempts and has converted five of those (including his sole attempt this past weekend as well), while JC is two for two.  If TJ musters another season in him, expect for the frustration to continue in 2011.

Arian Foster is the gold-standard on the goal-line harboring the best conversion percentage for RBs with at least five attempts on the season.  Tell that to his fantasy owners.  Foster chose a terrible time to go on a two-game TD drought, but I say he snaps that trend as the Texans travel to mile-high to kick the Donkeys around for 60 minutes who lead all NFL teams in fantasy points allowed to RBs.

Fantasy owners looking to make the correct call as to which Dallas RB they should start hopefully settled on Tashard Choice.  He appears to the goal-line RB going forward, and faces the Cardinal's run defense who's mission it is to lead the NFL in fantasy points allowed to opposing RBs (They trail on Denver).

*The below chart is ranked in order from most to least goal-line TDs.  The far-right column does NOT include total TDs.  The point of the chart is to bring to light which RBs are getting the money carries on their respective teams.

QBs

rank full name position team text
1 Peyton Manning QB IND home vs. Jacksonville - 1pm Sunday - He lit up this secondary for 352 yards and two TDs in Week four in Jacksonville, and the stakes weren't quite so high back then.  This game wreaks of a lot of offense.  The Jags allow the 3rd most fantasy points to opposing QBs through 13 weeks.  The Colts can't afford to lose any more games if they want a chance at a wildcard.  This and the next two are must-wins.
2 Michael Vick QB PHI at NY Giants - Sunday - 1pm  - His hand is fine, and while the Giants have a lofty pass defense (have allowed the 6th fewest fantasy points to opposing QBs), what are you gonna do, bench him?  Vick had his worst fantasy outing in Week 11 vs. this defense (yes, 19 fantasy points was his worst yet for a full game), so forgive me if my confidence is still sky high in him.
3 Tom Brady QB NE home vs. Green Bay - 8pm Sunday - He torched the Bears on the road in 50 MPH wind gusts, so I'm not going to bother spewing a bunch of meaningless stats at you.  He will roll in this game and there ain't a damn thing anyone can do about it.
4 Drew Brees QB NO at Baltimore - 1pm Sunday - It's difficult to make sense of the Ravens' pass defense this season.  They have allowed the 9th fewest fantasy points to QBs, however have been gutted by the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Schaub, Kyle Orton, and Matt Ryan (None of which are in the top seven in fantasy PPG for QBs) and then the only other QB they were able to contain inside the top seven was Tom Brady in Week six (292 yards and one TD).  The other QBs they have faced have been pure swill (Palmer, Sanchez in Week one, Seneca Wallace, Charlie Batch, Chad Henne, Josh Freeman, and Brian St Pierre).  What I'm building towards is that don't sweat Brees' match up too heavily; he's bunched together with Rodgers and Manning at 23.4 fantasy PPG trailing really only Vick.
5 Philip Rivers QB SD home vs. San Francisco - 8pm Thursday - It's looking more and more like Antonio Gates will not be available when No Cal faces So Cal. Furthermore, Vincent Jackson is still skirtin' it up with his calf injury, and Malcom Floyd has again re-tweaked his hamstring.  It's Groundhog Day here at the Fantasy Football Armory.   The 49ers have allowed the 11th most fantasy points to QBs this season.
6 Eli Manning QB NYG home vs. Philadelphia - 1pm Sunday - The Eagles boast the 7th most porous pass defense where fantasy QBs are concerned, however Eli just lost Steve Smith - again - but this time for the season.  With Manninghammy dealing with a hip flexor, the options are boiled down to Hakeem Nicks, Kevin Boss, and unproven Derek Hagan. Eli lit this pass defense up this time last season for 391 yards and three TDs, but their rushing attack was not clicking as it is these days.  The good news is that Philly has a much more prolific offense vs. this time last year, so the Giants will have to pass in this one to keep up.  Eli did struggle in Philadelphia earlier this year in Week 11 going for only 147 yards on two TDs and three INTs.  I would start Eli has a low-end QB1 assuming the weather isn't a huge factor.
7 Matt Ryan QB ATL at Seattle - 4pm Sunday - Seattle does nothing right defensively, including allowing the 6th most fantasy points to QBs through 13 weeks of sporting love that we call the NFL.  Ryan is coming off a stretch of mediocre fantasy outings but it's been a decently rough schedule whereby five of his last six opponents have ranked inside the top 12 in least fantasy points allowed to QBs.  This is his best match up of the year in Week 14.
8 Matt Schaub QB HOU at Tennessee - 1pm Sunday - It's tempting to get all excited about Schaub after that Monday night display that saw him toss 60+ attempts that resulted in his finest 2010 effort, but the Titans are the closest thing to a pair of dog-balls that you will find offensively these days (Arizona and Carolina withstanding), so I expect Kubiak to call a conservative game with a heavy dose of Arian Foster, which would be consistent with the previous weeks where Houston was in a close game or nursing a lead.  The Titans are allowing the 14th most fantasy points to opposing QBs in 2010.
9 Carson Palmer QB CIN home vs. Cleveland - 1pm Sunday - Palmer's career in Cinci is probably winding down in Cincinnati.  He has not been able to adjust his judgment to the limbs he has to work with.  In other words, he is still taking the same chances now, that he did earlier in his career before he messed up his elbow. That said, the Browns allow the 13th most fantasy points to QBs and Palmer did light them up in Week four for 371 yards and two TDs. This would amount to the last time you can consider starting him, as his next two match ups are vs. the #1 pass defense of San Diego, and then in Baltimore.
10 Jon Kitna QB DAL home vs. Washington - 1pm Sunday -  He's really only strung together three quality starts (vs. the Giants, Lions, and I guess the Jags, though he tossed four INTs).  The Redskins are allowing the 5th most fantasy points to QBs thru 13 weeks, so Kitna makes for a low-end start if you are in a 12 team league.
11 Sam Bradford QB STL home vs. Kansas City - 1pm Sunday - The Chiefs pass defense has slipped up of late allowing the 8th most fantasy points to QBs over their last five contests.  Bradford, though, has not tossed a TD in his last two games.  I'll be expecting that to change this weekend in St. Louis where he has managed to toss at least one TD in every home game, while laying a goose egg three times on the road.
12 Ben Roethlisberger QB PIT home vs. NY Jets - 4pm Sunday - The match up doesn't look pretty, but what are the Steelers gonna do, run on the Jets?  Lol.  Not.  The Jets are #2 defending the run, and Revis tweaked his hamstring in the game last week, and although he maintains that it's not a big deal, I doubt he'll be able to keep up with Mike Wallace streaking down the sidelines.  The one point of caution with Ben, here, is that the Steelers o-line is banged up and porous, not unlike the Chicago Bears' situation (ie crap oline).  The Jets are officially the 17th best pass defense, but 8th best over the last five weeks (ie since Revis came back from his hamstring), So it's not like they can't be passed upon.  Antonio Cromartie is the most over-rated corner-back in the NFL; go have another illegitimate kid, dude.
13 Joe Flacco QB BAL home vs. New Orleans - 1pm Sunday - It's a lot of fun to watch Flacco grow with each game he plays.  That Monday night showdown with the Texans was good solid stuff as Terry Chen's Ben Fong Torres character so eloquently put it in Almost Famous. He didn't play a perfect game, but you can (at least I can) just tell that he's taking that next step in his career this season.  Unfortunately for Flacco owners, though, he will be facing the 2nd toughest fantasy pass defense in the NFL that has only allowed eight passing scores on the season and only two TDs once in a game in 2010 (to fellow 3rd year guy Matt Ryan).  If you have better options, please use them.
14 Josh Freeman QB TB home vs. Detroit - 1pm Sunday -
15 Matt Cassel QB KC at St. Louis - 1pm Sunday - He has not practiced all week, and is listed as questionable.  It's not looking good, and when or if you confirm he is not playing, go on ahead and drop Bowe to the bottom of your shit-heap, too.
16 Jay Cutler QB CHI at Minnesota - MNF - The over/under on INTs in this one is set at three.  Drop me an email if you want to lay any action stegman@FFArmory.com.

RBs

rank full name position team text
1 Michael Turner RB ATL at Seattle - 4pm Sunday - Turner is finishing the season as expected.  He faces the 5th worst fantasy rush defense in Seattle this Sunday, and he remains in the pole position once again.
2 Arian Foster RB HOU at Tennessee - 1pm Sunday - Arian Foster is fantasy wood.  The Titans have only allowed six rushing TDs but 10 total when you factor in pass TDs to RBs.  They allow the 14th most fantasy points to RBs on the season, however 8th most over the last five weeks.  I took the long route in telling you that you will be all smiles this weekend for your fantasy playoff run.
3 Darren McFadden RB OAK home vs. Denver - 4pm Sunday - Let's start with the good news... the Donkeys allow the 2nd most fantasy points to RBs through 14 weeks of glorious NFL football. It gets even better when you consider Run DMC's Week 7 outburst is a nice chunk of that lowly rush defense ranking (165 yards on three rushing scores).  McFadden is really feeling as of late with a 6.3 YPA average over the last two weeks, so a high-end RB1 he remains.
4 Peyton Hillis RB CLE at Cinci - 1pm Sunday - Cinci has allowed five rushing scores in their last five tilts to go along with a 112 RYPG average in that time.  Hillis can do it all. Happy Playoffs.
5 Maurice Jones-Drew RB JAC at Indy - 1pm Sunday - The Colts still can't figure out how to defend the rush well as they allow the sixth most fantasy PPG to opposing RBs. He had a rushing and receiving score as well as 121 total yards; I expect similar numbers in a game that has significant playoff implications for both squads.
6 Chris Johnson RB TEN home vs. Houston - 1pm Sunday - Remember, the Texans suck at defending the pass; they're not terrible containing the ground game (15th most fantasy points to RBs).  Kerry Collins did pass with success vs. the Colts in their failed Week 14 comeback, and that will have to happen in this one to free up CJ2k.  In their last meeting he rattled off a whole five yards on seven carries en-route to a shut out, but don't be so quick to apply that logic as rookie Rusty Smith was under center.
7 Steven Jackson RB STL home vs. KC - 1pm Sunday - The Chiefs are middling when it comes to stopping the run (16th most fantasy points to RBs), but they did cough up 200+ yards vs. a very average Charger ground game.  For you glass-half-empty folk, I'll throw out that SJax is averaging 3.7 YPC vs. 4.1 YPC on the road, and there is no discernible difference in strength of schedule between the two.  I'm glass-half-full (most of the time) so I'd not hesitate to plug him in as a mid-range RB1.
8 Adrian Peterson RB MIN home vs. Chicago - MNF - Da Bears are allowing the 8th fewest fantasy points to RBs but the least over their last five games (only one total TD on 371 rush yards).  It gets worse; Tarvaris Jackson is suffering from a bad case of turf toe, and with Favre likely to remain on the shelf, rookie Joe Webb could get the start.  AP owners should stay glued to Jackson's status as odd as that may sound.  It's not like you can bench him, but just be more depressed about your playoff hopes if Webb is shouting signals on Monday night.
9 Jamaal Charles RB KC at St. Louis - 1pm Sunday - This one is pretty simple.  Brodie Croyle equals dog-balls, and Matt Cassel equals low-end RB1 status.  Cassel should be able to get out there being two weeks removed from the appendectomy that kept him out of last week's loss to the Chargers.  The Rams, though, shockingly have something to play for this late in the season (I know, it sounds weird), and what's more, they actually have a top 11 fantasy rush defense.
10 Knowshon Moreno RB DEN at Oakland - 4pm Sunday - Although Kyle Orton's numbers are in the $#!tter, Moreno's have been just fine since McDaniels got canned.  Doubters will point to two easier match ups vs. the Cardinals and Chiefs, but the Raiders have allowed the 8th most fantasy points to RBs, so I'll go on ahead and remain bullish on his potential.
11 Jonathan Stewart RB CAR home vs. Arizona - 1pm Sunday - It's a battle of the turds down south as the league's two worst offenses go to battle Sunday afternoon.  The Cards are the most porous rush defense from a fantasy perspective, and J-Stew is looking a lot like he did this time last year with 323 rushing yards over his last three tilts.  He's got RB1 written all over himself.
12 LeGarrette Blount  RB TB home vs. Detroit - 1pm Sunday - Ranking him as an RB1 may be aggressive, but good luck finding fault in this.  He's averaging a healthy 4.7 YPC over his last three games, two of which were against tough rush D's (Ravens, Falcons, and Redskins).  The Lions have allowed the 7th most fantasy points to opposing RBs; you feelin' me now?  Fire this chap up as an RB1 for a little fantasy playoff love.
13 LeSean McCoy RB PHI at NY Giants - 1pm Sunday - He was a beast in their first meeting in Week 11 (140 total yards and a score), and the Eagles would be wise to utilize him like that again.  You bet that the G-men will come with a hyper-aggressive pass rush (it worked a few weeks ago), and McCoy should be able to find soft spots in the flat when Vick is feeling pressure.  I expect more passing yards in this one for McCoy.
14 Ray Rice RB BAL home vs. New Orleans - 1pm Sunday - I'm running out of $#!t to say, here, at least where Ray Ray is concerned. The Saints fall smack-dab in the middle relative to run defense prowess, and he will need to be relied upon to move the ball vs. the Saints as their pass defense is the 2nd best in the business. Rice has eight 100+ total yard efforts this season but only three TDs (none of which are receiving!).  Can you say bust?
15 Ryan Torain RB WAS at Dallas - 1pm Sunday - This kid is averaging 4.9 YPC and coming off a 172 yard effort vs. the Bucs (granted they are the 10th worst rush defense).  The Cowboys aren't quite as porous (14th fewest points to RBs), but with all of the RBBCs and tough match ups this weekend, Torain is a solid RB2 play.
16 Rashard Mendenhall RB PIT home vs. NY Jets - 4pm Sunday - This one doesn't look good at all.  The Jets are the 2nd stingiest fantasy rush defense (they allow the fewest passing fantasy points to RBs), and Mendy has been seeing a lot of eight in the box with Roethlisberger hobbled the last two weeks. It'll be another lean outing.
17 Fred Jackson RB BUF at Miami - 1pm Sunday - The 'Fins have allowed only two 100+ yard rushers this season (AP in Week two and CJ2k in Week 10) and only five TDs on the season; they rank 7th defending the run.  That said, Fabulous can gut ya in-between the tackles or catching balls out of the backfield.  Ray Rice gut the 'Fins for 180 total yards in Week nine, so all hope is not lost.
18 BenJarvus Green-Ellis RB NE home vs. Green Bay - 8pm Sunday - If his owners can just squeeze by the Week 15 match up vs. the 3rd best rush defense, he's got the Bills in Week 16 for all the marbles.  Man, won't that sting if he gets shut down and you lose by 10 fantasy points?  Heh heh.  I know, I know, not cool, I'm a dick, blah blah blah.  BJGE has been a fantasy stud since Week three and is illustrative of how important managing the waiver wire can be early in the season.
19 Tim Hightower RB ARI at Carolina - 1pm Sunday - I'm counting the minutes until this barn-burner gets underway, too. When two crap offenses get together anything can happen, right?  Bank of America stadium will be rocking in Charlotte, baby.  Hightower donkey-punched the Broncos for 148 yards and two tuddies in Week 14 and they suck only a little worse (one spot lower) than the Panthers.  If you are considering starting this guy (and you should be, obviously we are), you have to stay glued to Beanie Wells' news-breakers, as he basically did not play due to the flu last weekend.
20 Matt Forte RB CHI at Minnesota - MNF - With only two 100+ yard rushing days to his credit in 2010, and only five rushing scores (he has three receiving scores but they were all in the first two weeks of the season), it's really difficult to get pumped about his potential facing off against the 10th best fantasy rush defense.  You bummin' out yet?  No?  Try this on for size; Chester the-goal-line-molester Taylor has snaked the last three goal-line attempts.  Peace.
21 Mike Tolbert RB SD home vs. San Francisco - 8pm Thursday -
22 Ricky Williams RB MIA home vs. Buffalo - 1pm Sunday - Ricky sneaks into the top 25 based on this match up vs. the 4th worst fantasy rush defense.  He's got a whopping three total TDs this season, and I say he's a got a good shot at 15 total touches and his 4th TD of the season.
23 Brandon Jacobs RB NYG at Philly - 1pm Sunday - I just don't trust this putz.  Five carries, 12 carries, eight carries, 14 carries, what's it gonna be?  Last weekend he racked up a few more than is typical due to Bradshaw spraining his wrist in the 2nd half.  He's got three TDs in two weeks and I say his streak ends there.  Neither RB did squat in the Week 11 meeting in Philadelphia.  I say they make Eli beat them.
24 Ahmad Bradshaw RB NYG home vs. Philly - 1pm Sunday - He didn't do much in the Week 11 meeting in Philadelphia, and there is cause for some reticence with the left wrist sprain he suffered last week.  The Giants have been running the ball flawlessly over the last three weeks and are short-handed at WR once again (Steve Smith is done for the season and Manningham is questionable with a hip flexor).  Bradshaw remains an RB2 consideration against the 13th most porous fantasy rush defense.
25 Thomas Jones RB KC at St. Louis - 1pm Sunday - Think - no scratch that - pray for a couple goal-line opportunities this weekend.  Jamaal Charles is the RB1 on the Chiefs as long as sanity and logic is coursing through the Chiefs coaching staff.  The Rams have only allowed five rushing scores and rank 11th against the rush fantasy-wise this season.
26 Michael Bush RB OAK
27 Cedric Benson RB CIN home vs. Cleveland - 1pm Sunday - Cedric the Un-entertainer busted all over his owner's faces in pretty much every week of this season save for two (Buffalo and Tampa).  The Browns will wrap him up, like they did in Week four. The Browns are the 13th best fantasy rush defense.
28 Javarris James RB IND home vs. Jacksonville - 1pm Sunday -
29 Brian Westbrook RB SF at San Diego - 8pm Thursday -
30 LaDainian Tomlinson RB NYJ at Pittsburgh - 4pm Sunday - Zero TDs in six weeks equals the fat lady sung.  Let's not blame schedule, either, as those six games included contests vs. the Patriots, Texans, Detroit, which are each bottom 15 fantasy rush defenses. We all know how good Pittsburgh is in that department (1st), so tempering expectations is a minimalist approach with LT2 this Sunday.
31 Felix Jones RB DAL home vs. Washington - 1pm Sunday -
32 Tashard Choice RB DAL home vs. Washington - 1pm Sunday -
33 Ryan Mathews RB SD home vs. San Francisco - 8pm Thursday - He doesn't have much upside splitting carries with Tolbert and being pulled in goal-line and short yardage situations.  The Niners are allowing the 9th fewest fantasy points to RBs, so this should be a flex play option and nothing more.

WRs

rank full name position team text
1 Reggie Wayne WR IND home vs. Jacksonville - 1pm Sunday - Wayne had his flame-thrower out in Week four when these teams met to the tune of 196 yards (but not TDs).  It went down that way in both games in 2009, too, as he totaled 294 yards and two TDs in two games in 2009.  The Jags register in as the 4th most porous fantasy pass defense.
2 Andre Johnson WR HOU at Tennessee - 1pm Sunday - Nah, 'Dre is not salivating at the opportunity to dust Finnegan for a couple of scores.  The Titans are actually surprisingly stingy with the fantasy points to opposing WRs (9th fewest), but they also need to deal with containing Arian Foster.  It's just a different deal with this team.  Ugh, I play against both this week.
3 Roddy White WR ATL at Seattle - 4pm Sunday - He has found pay dirt in four weeks, and these ills should be cured by Seattle's 3rd most porous pass defense.  Ryan still loves him, and his owners should, too.
4 Marques Colston WR NO at Baltimore - 1pm Sunday - The Ravens pass defense allows the 12th most fantasy points to WRs and Colston has been on a serious roll of late (not scoring less than 10 fantasy points in any one game since Week nine).
5 Calvin Johnson WR DET at Tampa Bay - 1pm Sunday - Who gives a flying fark who is QB'ing in Detroit, but Hill does have a shot at playing in this one, and that would tend to increase his value.  But still, even if it's Stanton, Mega is a high end WR1 play.  Also, Aqib Talib (TB's top cover corner) is out, so my mom could find Mega this Sunday.
6 Hakeem Nicks WR NYG home vs. Philly - 1pm Sunday - Seven catches and 96 yards is enough to placate any concerns I had on his previous injury.  He should be targeted another 10-11 times minimally in a shoot-out with Philly.  The Eagles allow the 13th fewest fantasy points to WRs.
7 Miles Austin WR DAL home vs. Washington - 1pm Sunday - He's coming off a pretty ugly three game stretch in which he has not sniffed the end zone and totaled only 94 yards.  They've been reasonably tough match-ups, though (NO-2nd, Indy-5th, and Philly-13th fewest fantasy points to WRs). The 'Skins aren't quite that efficient allowing the 6th most fantasy points to WRs.  Austin will see all of the primary targets.
8 Jeremy Maclin WR PHI at NY Giants - 1pm Sunday  -  I am working up a theory that Vick has become such a student of the game that he is just see-sawing Maclin and DeSean to toy with opposing defense's minds.  Those two have alternated monster games all season.  It could be Maclin's turn this weekend, but his upside is not quite what D-Jax's is, hence the slightly lower ranking.
9 Pierre Garcon WR IND home vs. Jacksonville - 1pm Sunday - I think Garcon has a legitimate shot to out-produce Wayne in this one.  No professional team likes to continually get embarrassed by the same dude, and Wayne has done it three straight games.  The safety help will be dedicated to Wayne, leaving a surging Garcon (14 catches for 149 yards and three TDs in the last two games) in one on one coverage with one of the top two QBs in the NFL.
10 Terrell Owens WR CIN home vs. Cleveland - 1pm Sunday - This is the team he killed (in Cleveland, no less) for 222 yards and a score in Week four, but that was back when Ochocinco was drawing all of the double teams.  TO should expect all of the extra attention from this secondary, so I'm going to temper my expectations a bit and lock him in as a mid-range WR2 and nothing more.
11 Wes Welker WR NE home vs. Green bay - 8pm Sunday - This is another one of those "who cares what the pass defense numbers are" type of starts, cuz Brady is launching indefensible missiles over the last month. Also, Welker's knee appears to have strengthened all season; he's peaking.
12 DeSean Jackson WR PHI at NY Giants - 1pm Sunday - He only had five catches for 50 yards in the first meeting, but the guy is on display for his next big contract, so expect 110% the rest of the way.  The G-man pass defense has allowed the 8th fewest fantasy points to WRs.
13 Larry Fitzgerald WR ARI at Carolina - 1pm Sunday - Fitz is like a poor-man's Mega-tron in the "it doesn't matter who his QB" department; he's put up nice lines with all three dungpiles (Anderson, Skelton, and Hall) this season.  The Panthers allow the 4th fewest fantasy points to WRs, so don't go assuming Fitz will deliver.  He's only topped 100 yards once this season and has only one multi-TD game.  Zzzzzzzzzz.
14 Dwayne Bowe WR KC at St. Louis - 1pm Sunday - He'll also plummet if his starting QB is not under center.  Cassel has been practicing and has been slightly limited but should play.  If Croyle starts, I'd debate starting Bowe with the likes of Johnny Knox, Mike Sims-Walker, etc.  The Rams allow the 10th most fantasy points to WRs, so if Cassel does play, this is a pretty sweet match up.
15 Mike Wallace WR PIT home vs. NY Jets - 4pm Sunday - It would be way cool to see Wallace connect deep vs. Revis this weekend.  Let's hope they at least try.  I don't think anyone can keep up with Wallace one on one going deep, and the Jets are just cocky enough to try it.  Officially, the Jets are listed as allowing the 15th most fantasy points to WRs for the season, but a good chunk of that was sans-Revis (they have allowed the 6th fewest over the last five weeks).  Still, there is hope in this one.  A WR2 for the week sounds about right for Wallace owners.
16 Anquan Boldin WR BAL home vs. New Orleans - 1pm Sunday - I thought it was pretty pathetic and disappointing (probably could have just used one of those there) that Boldin laid an egg in the first round of the fantasy playoffs against the 2nd worst pass defense in a shoot-out.  But then again, the week before, he torched the Steelers (14th fewest fantasy points to WRs) the week before.  The Saints are el numero uno when it comes to pass defense, so keep expectations in check.
17 Kenny Britt WR TEN home vs. Houston - 1pm Sun - Britt looked very nimble last Thursday despite the moderate stat line (4 catches for 39 yards).  Who knows (or cares) whether Moss will earn his reps this week, the important thing is that CJ2k is healthy and will have to be accounted for every play.  Just don't forget Britt's hot streak earlier this season before his hammy popped from Weeks 3-7 (seven TDs and 434 yards in five games). Oh yeah, and then there's this; the Texans allow the 2nd most fantasy points to WRs.
18 Steve Johnson WR BUF at Miami - 1pm Sunday - God has struck down Stevie for calling him out three weeks ago, as he has not sniffed the end zone and only totaled 76 yards in two games since.  Football is weird, and though the 'Fins have a solid fantasy pass defense (6th fewest fantasy points to WRs), I'd have a hard time benching Stevie in this one.  The weather will be nice at least.
19 Brandon Lloyd WR DEN at Oakland - 4pm Sunday - Brandon Lloyd might be getting his first taste of tea-bag I mean Tebow this weekend as Orton hasn't been throwing due to a rack of injured ribs.  Nothing he did in the first twelve weeks made any sense to me, and it's been nice to see him come crashing back down to Earth.  Oakland allows the 10th fewest fantasy points to WRs.
20 Michael Williams WR TB home vs. Detroit - 1pm Sunday - He had a quiet Week 14, largely due to the weather (hey, not everyone can go off like Brady in the snow and cold), and he should bounce back vs. the Lions' who allow the 14th most fantasy points to WRs.
21 Santonio Holmes WR NYJ at Pittsburgh - 4pm Sunday - So if you have him on your roster, you would be insane not to plug him in your line-up, but just remember, for as much as he wants to light up the Steelers, they want to shut him down.  Hey Holmes, remember practicing with Polamalu?  Well, there's no "no-contact" drills going on in this one.  Expect a lot of his attention. The Steelers have allowed the 15th fewest fantasy points to WRs this season, but I expect a better showing than that.
22 Brandon Marshall WR MIA home vs. Buffalo - 1pm Sun - Only two touchdowns on the year, and I have the nerve to rank him as a WR2 this week?  Das' right, baby.  The Bills pass defense has coughed up 14 TDs in 13 games, and Marshall is too proud to let his season close with such meager numbers.  I hear he plays fantasy and drafts himself in the first round... duh.
23 Deion Branch WR NE home vs. Green Bay - 8pm Sunday - He's been limited in practice all week, and this match up is not what I'd call a good one (Packers have allowed the 3rd fewest fantasy points to WRs), but while you go on ahead and bench him, I'll put my money on Brady in this and every one going forward.  Oh and by the way, if the Perfect Storm hits Boston (again), it doesn't matter, cuz Brady will play through it, but unlike George Clooney, will prevail.  Can you tell I benched Branch last weekend?  And you hecklers standing at the ready with your "god are you stupid, and you call yourself a fantasy expert, of course you don't bench Branch in the side-ways snow in negative temperature" comments can gently shove them up your @$$, please.
24 Chad Ochocinco WR CIN home vs. Cleveland - 1pm Sunday - **Update** he cut his hand slicing fruit.  What a fruit. With this latest, i had to drop him to WR3 status.
25 Greg Jennings WR GB at New England - 8pm Sunday - Obviously, if Rodgers sits, he will plummet down to low-end WR2 status, but I remain bullish that Rodgers shakes off whatever cob-webs linger from his concussion to roll against a Patriots pass defense that allows the 8th most fantasy points to opposing WRs.
26 Santana Moss WR WAS at Dallas - 1pm Sunday -*update* McNabb benched for season - Rex Grossman is Qb, Ugh*** Moss is going up against the Cowboys who could open a lucrative WR fantasy points business if they figured on the right model; they allow more of them than any other NFL team.  Maybe I have that reversed, as I re-read that, it doesn't make a lot of sense.  It's certainly not funny.   The snow didn't seem to bother Moss last week as he rattled off 82 yards on seven catches and a tuddie.  He's had a decent season, here in the twilight of his career (20th most fantasy points for WRs).  The good match up makes him a mid-tier WR2 this weekend.
27 Hines Ward WR PIT home vs. NY Jets - 4pm Sunday - I'm assuming it's Revis on Wallace and Cro on Ward, and if it plays out like that, I could easily see Ward having another solid outing running the under-neath stuff.  See Wallace's blurb for Jet pass D rankings; I'm starting to get a case of carpal tunnel syndrome.
28 Vincent Jackson WR SD home vs. San Francisco - 8pm Thurs -
29 Michael Crabtree WR SF at San Diego - 8pm Thursday -
30 Steve Smith WR CAR home vs. Arizona - 1pm Sunday -
31 Austin Collie WR IND home vs. Jacksonville - 1pm Sunday - He's baaaaaack.
32 Lance Moore WR NO at Baltimore- 1pm Sun -
33 Mike Sims-Walker WR JAC at Indy - 1pm Sunday -
34 Earl Bennett WR CHI at Minnesota - MNF -
35 Johnny Knox WR CHI at Minnesota - MNF-
36 Braylon Edwards WR NYJ at Pittsburgh - 4pm Sunday -
37 Sidney Rice WR MIN home vs. Chicago - MNF - Tarvaris Jackson has been placed on the IR, Favre is hiding in a corner with his eyes closed making himself believe that no one can see him, and that leaves rookie Joe Webb.  Uh oh.  Leave Rice on the bench.

TEs

rank full name position team text
1 Vernon Davis TE SF at St. Louis - 1pm Sunday - Oops.
2 Jason Witten TE DAL home vs. Washington - 1pm Sunday - His targets have been on the rise over the last four weeks and only Rob Gronknowski, oddly, has more fantasy points than him over the last five weeks.  The Redskins do an average job defending TEs allowing the 15th most fantasy points to TEs.  Witten should be starting in all formats.
3 Jacob Tamme TE IND home vs. Jacksonville - 1pm Sunday - He's been dinged up the last two weeks, but has played and only produced a handful (83) yards in the last two.  It's tough to say whether or not the injury has played a factor or not, you decide based on this... on pretty much every goal-line formation the Colts ran last weekend, Tamme was in for zero point zero of the plays.  Whatever tardball formation they were using did not include Tamme.   Annoying, right?  The Jag-offs allow the 6th most fantasy points to TEs.
4 Tony Gonzalez TE ATL at Seattle - 4pm Sunday - Seattle might get gauged by opposing WRs (3rd most), but TEs don't fare as well (11th fewest).  They've only allowed four TE receiving scores on the year.  Gonzo owners must start him, though, as he's notched two TDs in his last three games, and is getting consistent targets.
5 Rob Gronkowski TE NE home vs. Green Bay - 8pm Sunday - This is how bad it's gotten for TEs this season... Gronkowski leads all TEs in fantasy scoring over the last five weeks with nine PPG.  The match up is actually fairly solid, as while the Pack does well defending WRs, they struggle in the TE defense department allowing the 9th most fantasy points in the NFL.   He has only one catch per his last four home games, and at least four in his last four road games.  Hmmmm.
6 Marcedes Lewis TE JAC at Indy - 1pm Sunday - Lewis ranks 3rd overall in fantasy PPG and is facing a defense that allows the 14th most fantasy points to opposing TEs.  Garrard has targeted only MSW more in the red zone, and Lewis has six RZ TDs and nine on the year.  In a year where TEs have been dropping like flies, Marcedes has been a diamond in the rough.
7 Kevin Boss TE NYG home vs. Philly - 1pm Sunday - The Eagles cough up the most fantasy points to opposing TEs, and with Steve Smith on the shelf for the remainder, and Manningham dinged up, only Nicks and Boss remain as dependable targets (he received nine of them in Week 14 even with Nicks and Smith back).  He has the 4th most fantasy points among TEs over the last five weeks, and you should not hestitate to plug him into your lineup as a TE1 this week.
8 Brent Celek TE PHI at NY Giants - 1pm Sunday -
9 Brandon Pettigrew TE DET at Tampa Bay - 1pm Sunday -
10 Chris Cooley TE WAS at Dallas - 1pm Sunday -
11 Dustin Keller TE NYJ at Pittsburgh - 4pm Sunday -
12 Aaron Hernandez TE NE home vs. Green Bay - 8pm Sun -

Week 15!

Start 'Em

QB

Eli Mannings - Home vs. Eagles - The Eagles boast the 7th most porous pass defense where fantasy QBs are concerned, however Eli just lost Steve Smith -- again -- but this time for the season. With Manningham dealing with a hip flexor, the options are boiled down to Hakeem Nicks, Kevin Boss and unproven Derek Hagan.

Eli lit this pass defense up last season for 391 yards and three TDs, but their rushing attack was not clicking as it is these days.

The good news is that Philly has a much more prolific offense than last year, so the Giants will have to pass in this one to keep up. Eli did struggle in Philadelphia earlier this year in Week 11 going for only 147 yards on two TDs and three INTs.

I would start Eli as a mid-range QB1, assuming the weather isn't a huge factor.

Matt Ryan - @ Seattle - Seattle does nothing right defensively, including allowing the 6th most fantasy points to QBs through 13 weeks of sporting love that we call the NFL. Ryan is coming off a stretch of mediocre fantasy outings but has had a decently rough schedule, five of his last six opponents have ranked inside the top 12 in least fantasy points allowed to QBs. This is his best matchup of the year in Week 14.

Carson Palmer home vs. Cleveland - Seattle does nothing right defensively, including allowing the 6th most fantasy points to QBs through 13 weeks of sporting love that we call the NFL. Ryan is coming off a stretch of mediocre fantasy outings but has had a decently rough schedule, five of his last six opponents have ranked inside the top 12 in least fantasy points allowed to QBs. This is his best matchup of the year in Week 14.

Jon Kitna - Home vs. Washington - Seattle does nothing right defensively, including allowing the 6th most fantasy points to QBs through 13 weeks of sporting love that we call the NFL. Ryan is coming off a stretch of mediocre fantasy outings but has had a decently rough schedule, five of his last six opponents have ranked inside the top 12 in least fantasy points allowed to QBs. This is his best matchup of the year in Week 14.

RB

Tim Hightower @ Carolina - I'm counting the minutes until this barnburner gets underway too. When two crap offenses get together anything can happen, right? Bank of America Stadium will be rocking in Charlotte, baby. Hightower donkey-punched the Broncos for 148 yards and two tuddies in Week 14 and they suck only a little worse (one spot lower) than the Panthers. If you are considering starting this guy (and you should be, obviously we are), you have to stay glued to Beanie Wells' news-breakers, as he basically did not play due to the flu last weekend and will inevitably negatively impact High's touches.

LeGarrette Blount home vs. Detroit - Ranking him as an RB1 may be aggressive, but good luck finding fault in this. He's averaging a healthy 4.7 YPC over his last three games, two of which were against tough rush Ds (Ravens, Falcons and Redskins). The Lions have allowed the 7th most fantasy points to opposing RBs; you feelin' me now? Fire this chap up as an RB1 for a little fantasy playoff love.

Ryan Torain @ Dallas - This kid is averaging 4.9 YPC and coming off a 172 yard effort vs. the Bucs (granted they are the 10th worst rush defense). The Cowboys aren't quite as porous (14th fewest points to RBs), but with all of the RBBCs and tough matchups this weekend, Torain is a solid RB2 play.

Ricky Williams home vs. Buffalo - Ricky sneaks into the top 25 based on this matchup vs. the 4th worst fantasy rush defense. He's got a whopping three total TDs this season, and I say he's a got a good shot at 15 total touches and his 4th TD of the season.

He got sufficient touches in their first meeting but they didn't materialize into much (18 carries for 62 yards). But the Bills have since broken down to the point where they are allowing the most yards per game in the league and the 4th most fantasy points to RBs.

WR

Steve Johnson @ Miami - God has struck down Stevie for calling him out three weeks ago, as he has not sniffed the end zone and only totaled 76 yards in two games since. Football is weird, and though the 'Fins have a solid fantasy pass defense (6th fewest fantasy points to WRs), I'd have a hard time benching Stevie in this one. The weather will be nice at least.

Kenny Britt home vs. Houston - Britt looked very nimble last Thursday despite the moderate stat line (four catches for 39 yards).

Pierre Garcon home vs. Jacksonville - I think Garcon has a legitimate shot to outproduce Wayne in this one.

Santana Moss @ Dallas - Moss is going up against the Cowboys who could open a lucrative WR fantasy points business if they figured on the right model; they allow more of them than any other NFL team.

Santonio Holmes @ Pittsburgh - So if you have him on your roster, you would be insane not to plug him in your line-up, but just remember, for as much as he wants to light up the Steelers, they want to shut him down. Hey Holmes, remember practicing with Polamalu? Well, there's no "no-contact" drills going on in this one. Expect a lot of his attention. The Steelers have allowed the 15th fewest fantasy points to WRs this season, but I expect a better showing than that.

TE

Kevin Boss home vs. Philadelphia - The Eagles cough up the most fantasy points to opposing TEs, and with Steve Smith on the shelf for the remainder, and Manningham dinged up, only Nicks and Boss remain as dependable targets (he received nine of them in Week 14 even with Nicks and Smith back). He has the 4th most fantasy points among TEs over the last five weeks, and you should not hestitate to plug him into your lineup as a TE1 this week.

Sit 'Em

QB

Joe Flacco home vs. New Orleans - It's a lot of fun to watch Flacco grow with each game he plays. That Monday night showdown with the Texans was "good, solid stuff" as Terry Chen's Ben Fong Torres character so eloquently put it in Almost Famous.

He didn't play a perfect game, but you can (at least I can) just tell that he's taking that next step in his career this season.

Unfortunately for Flacco owners though, he will be facing the 2nd toughest fantasy pass defense in the NFL that has only allowed eight passing scores on the season and two TDs just once in a game in 2010 (to fellow 3rd year guy Matt Ryan). If you have better options, please use them.

Kyle Orton @ Oakland - Stick a fork in him, he's done. He just laid an egg against two marginal pass defenses, and with no more Josh McDungiels calling the plays, you can no longer bank on 35+ pass attempts short of a blowout. The Raiders aren't doing anything particularly impressive defending their airspace (10th most points to QBs), but I just don't have much confidence that he can turn things around. This is twice in two years now that the Donkeys have put on an extended facade only to crash and burn. Brandon Lloyd owners should have dumped him when they had the chance. You can stick a fork in him too.

RB

Cedric Benson home vs. Cleveland - Cedric the Un-entertainer busted all over his owner's faces in pretty much every week of this season save for two (Buffalo and Tampa). The Browns will wrap him up like they did in Week 4. The Browns are the 13th best fantasy rush defense.

Ladainain Tomlinson @ Pittsburgh - Zero TDs in six weeks equals the fat lady singing. Let's not blame schedule either, as those six games included contests vs. the Patriots, Texans and Detroit, each bottom 15 fantasy rush defenses. We all know how good Pittsburgh is in that department (1st), so tempering expectations is a minimalist approach with LT2 this Sunday.

WR

Johnny Knox @ Minnesota - Blizzard conditions, outdoors in the state of Minnesota, late December, need more?  Fine, how about that Joe Webb is the starting QB for the Vikings and this game should be over by half-time?  The Vikings are right smack dab in the middle from a pass defense ranking perspective, but there will be a heavy dose of running on both sides, and Cutler looks primarily for Earl Bennett in the red zone anyway.  Knox has been a huge disappointment this season.

Sidney Rice home vs. Chicago - Tarvaris Jackson has been placed on the IR and Brett Favre is hiding in a corner with his eyes closed making himself believe that no one can see him. That leaves rookie Joe Webb to start. Uh oh. Leave Rice on the bench. Did I mention the blizzard conditions expected in Minnesota, and that they are playing outdoors because the Metrodome roof collapsed?  If you still aren't convinced, just know that the Bears allow the 11th fewest fantasy points to opposing WRs.
